Where Can I Buy Delta-8-THC?

The cannabis Sativa plant is flush with compounds known to be beneficial to our health and wellness.

Of the 100+ cannabinoids present in the plant, only two compounds seem to get the attention of most people – THC and CBD.

However, there is more than one type of THC available. What is delta-8-THC, and where is it available?

Most people are clueless about other cannabinoids that may hold equal wellness benefits without the psychoactive effects ∆9-THC. But that is slowly changing, courtesy of one minor cannabinoid that is now popping up everywhere, ∆8-THC.

Like CBD, this cannabinoid has one major selling point, which is why it is increasingly becoming a hit– its perceived health and wellness uses.

However, it shares a lot in common with the infamous delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol that most are familiar with.

In this article, we look at delta-8-THC, what it is about, the best products in the market as well as where it is available.

Where Is Delta-8-THC Available

The acronym THC is mostly associated with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC) – the prominent cannabinoid in the cannabis plant and the primary psychoactive compound in the plant.

∆9-THC is undoubtedly the star of the plant until CBD came along.

However, delta-9-THC is not the only compound in the plant that is identified by the acronym THC.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) review, there are at least six isomers of THC, including delta-8-THC.

What is Delta-8-TH1C?

Delta-8-THC, also written as ∆-8-THC or delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of 100+ cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant, including hemp.

It occurs in minuscule amounts and is considered a minor cannabinoid.

The compound, like all cannabinoids in the plant, forms from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), which is regarded as the parent cannabinoid in cannabis.

CBGA undergoes synthesis to form THCA and CBDA -the precursors to THC and CBD, respectively.

When the plant is harvested, exposed to UV light, heat or goes through an aging process, the THCA undergoes decarboxylation to form delta-9-THC

The delta-9-THC formed is not a stable molecule, and it is converted to delta-8-THC through oxidation.

The resulting molecule (∆-8-THC) is stable and is not altered when exposed to air, which means it has a longer shelf-life.

Delta-8-THC is an isomer of ∆9-THC.

This explains why the two have very similar chemical structures.

The main similarity is that they both have a double bond (expressed as delta); the main difference is the position of the double bond in their molecular structure.

Delta-8-THC contains the double bond on its 8th carbon atom while the delta-9-THC double bond occurs on the 9th carbon.

Thanks to this slight molecular difference, the ∆8-THC can provide the same benefits as ∆-9 but with much less psychoactive potency.

Delta-8-THC Oral Availability And The Best Way To Use It

There are many ways to use THC and CBD.

You can use oral administration such as oils and edibles, inhalation techniques such as smoking and vaping, and through sublingual administration.

Most ∆8-THC products are typically available as vapable extracts and as sublingual drops.

You will notice that not many ∆8-THC extracts are available as edibles as the compound may be converted into delta-11-THC when exposed to the digestion process.

However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t experience the benefits offered by the cannabinoid if you prefer oral administration. ∆8-THC is also absorbed in the mouth and under the tongue.

Vapes and other inhalation techniques are popular among ∆8-THC users because they deliver effects in the shortest time compared to other application methods.

∆8-THC is also available in sublingual options that are applied under the tongue.

The sublingual application delivers effects faster than when swallowing because it is directly absorbed into the bloodstream, and the compound doesn’t undergo digestion and the first pass effect.

Where Is Delta-8-THC Available – Take Away

Delta-8-THC is slowly making its way into the cannabinoid retail market because of its wellness benefits and mild psychoactive effects when compared to ∆9-THC.

However, it is not a new compound.

It occurs in minimal amounts naturally in the cannabis/hemp plants, which is why the general public knows very little about it.

But that is slowly changing, ∆8-THC is legal as long as it is extracted from hemp and not made synthetically.

It is, therefore, increasingly available online and in stores in states where it is legal.

However, to ensure quality, safety, and value for money, ensure you buy it from reputable producers and sellers such as the Great CBD Shop who provide lab test results and CoAs.

∆8-THC may induce some psychoactive effects, albeit not as intense as ∆9-THC. Ensure you consult your doctor before using it, especially if you are under prescription treatment.
