How To Use CBD Cream For Pain

Modern CBD users are lucky to have so many options at their disposal. As recently as just a few years ago, CBD oil & CBD cream were the only options available to those wanting to use CBD cream for pain relief.

However, nowadays consumers have access to all kinds of CBD products that allow them to dose whichever way they want to.

One of these products that are particularly effective for pain management is CBD cream.

Hemp CBD infused creams and CBD lotions can be applied topically for localized delivery of cannabinoids. How do you use CBD cream for pain? Keep reading to find out!

1. How To Apply CBD Lotion For Pain

To apply CBD cream for pain, first make sure that the area is properly cleaned and ready for application. Applying cream to dirty or oily skin can make it harder to absorb and reduce its effectiveness.

Apply your CBD cream just as you would any other pain cream or moisturizer. Scoop some up with a finger and apply it directly to the affected area.

Make sure to spread the cream out and rub it into your skin well. Try to rub in a circular motion as this will help the cream to penetrate your pores more easily. Finally, remember to wash your hands after application.

Most CBD creams are infused with additional oils and other ingredients that can make your hands sticky, oily, and smelly after use. Wash your hands well to avoid transferring these substances onto other surfaces, or even worse, into your eyes or mouth.

2. CBD Pain Relief Topical Rub

Can CBD cream really provide relief from pain? Research indicates that yes, it can.

A study from 2009 found that the cannabinoids CBD and THC could potentially act as a “potent treatment” against inflammation and inflammatory pain. By inhibiting the release of inflammatory cytokines and by stimulating cell receptors in the immune system, these cannabinoids stop inflammation before it can even begin.

CBD interacts with protein cell receptors in the body’s inner endocannabinoid system (ECS) to produce these anti-inflammatory effects.

The ECS network interacts with external cannabinoids like CBD and naturally produced endocannabinoids like anandamide to maintain balance in the body by regulating functions such as sleep, appetite, mood, and others.

When ingested, cannabinoids like CBD and THC interact with ECS cell receptors, although in different ways. While THC binds directly to cell receptors in the ECS, CBD CBD has little binding affinity for these receptors.

Instead, CBD is thought to indirectly stimulate other receptors in the network. It is thought that CBD stimulates cell receptors like GPR55 receptors and TRP channel receptors that modulate the release of inflammatory cytokines and enzymes throughout the body.

CBD may also help the body to maintain more natural endocannabinoids like anandamide, further contributing to its anti-inflammatory effects. CBD is believed to prevent the breakdown of endocannabinoids in the body, making them more effective over time.

CBD pain cream can also help to treat non-inflammatory pain like nerve pain. Neurological pain can feel like burning or tingling throughout the affected area. This type of pain can seriously restrict motion and make it much harder to function throughout the day.

Studies show that patients suffering from neuropathic pain report significant decreases in pain intensity and frequency after consuming CBD.

3. How Much CBD Rub Should You Apply?

When consuming CBD oil, you need to be careful not to take too much or too little. Consuming too little will result in not experiencing the relief you need. Consuming too much can leave you feeling overly sedated and drowsy (not too mention wasting valuable CBD!).

However, with topical CBD pain relief cream, there is really no way to consume too much. Start with a small dollop of cream on your finger and apply it wherever needed. If you are not experiencing the relief you desire, simply apply more the next time around.

Remember to apply CBD cream directly to trouble spots in order to maximize effectiveness and minimize waste. If you are experiencing muscle pain, apply the cream directly to the muscle causing you pain. If you are experiencing joint pain (or arthritic pain), apply the cream directly to the affected joint area.

After applying the cream you should wait about an hour to experience effects. If you have not experienced relief within an hour, try applying more cream. If the cream works, you will want to re-apply it every 3-4 hours or as directed on the package.

Try experimenting with different dosages of cream. Since everybody’s pain is different, what works for one person may not work for another.

4. What Can CBD Salves Help You With?

CBD cream could potentially help treat numerous conditions including pain, inflammation, inflammatory skin conditions, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, acne, rashes, bacterial infections, and nerve pain.

CBD Oil or CBD Topicals For Pain?

The main difference between CBD oil and CBD cream is that one works systemically while one works locally.

When CBD oil is applied sublingually, it is absorbed through membranes in the mouth and makes its way into the bloodstream. As a result, effects are experienced throughout the entire body and the brain.

However, when CBD is applied locally, it’s effects are restricted to the area where it is applied. This is because while topical CBD can sink deep inside of muscles to provide relief, it never makes it into the bloodstream. As such, topical CBD produces no psychological effects and will not provide relief anywhere other than where it is applied.

Whether you choose topical CBD or CBD oil should depend on your symptoms. If you are seeking relief from localized muscle or joint pain in very specific areas, then topical CBD is likely the best choice. If you are looking to achieve full-body relief, or are seeking relief from pain in several places, CBD oil may be a better choice for you.

Additionally, CBD cream is a more discreet dosing option than CBD oil. No dropper involved! Simply apply it as you would any other pain cream and nobody will know the difference!
