Delta 10 THC, Delta 8 THC

What is the difference between Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC? Are they the same?

Is delta10 THC the same as Delta 8 THC?

What is the difference between Delta 8 and Delta 10? Delta 10 THC is a relatively new cannabinoid that is becoming a hot favorite in the market. Many people wonder if it is the same as Delta 8 or different. What are the main differences between these two that distinguish them apart?

Generally, people know the term THC, and many of them have developed a negative perception of it due to relentless campaigns against cannabis. It is only recently the general public has shown interest in the health and wellness benefits of cannabis extracted compounds when several of the myths associated with the harmful effects of cannabis are quashed by scientific research.

The research on the plant found that THC can occur in several forms – Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 THC, and Delta 10 THC. Despite sharing a similar name, all forms of THC leave a different effect on the body.

The vast majority of people link the term THC to the infamous delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, the most abundant active compound of the cannabis plant. Delta 9 THC is responsible for a notorious high that leads to anxiety and paranoia. Not many are aware of other cannabinoids exist that are as awesome as Delta 9 THC. In the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, it allowed researchers to expand on their endeavors using hemp and expanding upon the discovery of more novel cannabinoids and introducing them to market.

Still interested in some of these novel cannabinoids and some of their key difference between delta 8 and delta 10?  Let’s take a deeper look at each and share some knowledge on the two widely popular cannabinoids in today’s market.

What is Delta 10 THC?

What is delta 10 THC

Delta 10 THC is an isomer of Delta 8 and Delta 9. Think of it as a younger sibling of these relatively well-known THC compounds but with calmer and energizing effects.

All three THC compounds share the same chemical formula, but their atoms are arranged in different ways that produce varying effects. They have a similar number of carbon atoms. The term delta refers to a double bond present in all THC isomers, but the difference lies in the location of this double bond.

This difference of double bond location changes the way these compounds interact with our cannabinoids system and produce effects.

Like its cousins Delta 9 and Delta-8, Delta 10 THC causes a high, but its high is milder due to a different molecular structure. The users report Delta 10 causes more Sativa-like effects, whereas Delta 8 produces more of an indica high.

Different kinds of high

Delta 8 & Delta 10 leave different kind of high

Like Delta 8 and Delta 9, Delta 10 also causes psychotropic effects when interacting with the body’s ECS system. But Delta 10 causes milder effects than Delta 8 for reasons not known.

Research indicates that Delta 8 binds to both CB1 and CB2 receptors of ECS, and this interaction produces a mild high along with therapeutic effects.

There is no research at this point to describe the interaction between Delta 10 THC and ECS receptors. Since it causes a mild high, that helps us assume Delta 10 binds to ECS receptors. It is less potent than Delta 8 and produces a clearer high with enhanced focus.

Chemical Composition

Chemical composition of delta 10 & delta 8

Delta 8 and Delta 10 are isomers of Delta 9 THC. It means all these THC compounds have a similar formula but with a different molecular structure. The molecular structure causes all THC compounds to interact differently and hence produce varying effects.

Concentration in cannabis Delta 8 and delta 10 naturally occurs in the cannabis plant though in a minuscule amount. On the other hand, Delta 9 is found abundantly in cannabis extracts, and its concentration goes above 30%.

Legal situation

Legal status of delta 10 thc

Unlike their infamous cousin Delta 9 THC, both Delta 8 and Delta 10 enjoy federally legal status. In terms of legality, there is no difference between Delta 8 and Delta 10. Since they contain less than 0.3% of Delta 9 THC, both are legal under the Farm Bill 2018.

Therapeutic effects

The preliminary research shows Delta 8 offers several health and wellness benefits to the human body. The National Cancer Institute describes Delta 8 possesses anxiolytic, antiemetic, appetite-stimulating neuroprotective, and analgesic properties.

A 1995 study found when Delta 8 was administered to 8 children with hematologic cancer and undergoing chemotherapy treatment eliminated vomiting.

On the other hand, Delta 10 is a recently discovered compound, and there is no scientific study available to this date to support its therapeutic effects. Based on its chemical composition similarities and anecdotal reports, presumably, the compound is as good as Delta 8 THC.

Final words

Both Delta 8 and Delta 10 share the name THC, but they appear to interact with the body differently and produce different effects. Both cannabinoids are psychoactive but leave milder and non-intoxicating effects. The users report Delta 10 high is milder than Delta 8.
