What is H4CBD? The HHC Of CBD And Where To Buy It

What Is H4?

If users have learned anything in the hemp-derived scene over the last few years, it’s that cannabinoids are pretty malleable. What we mean by this is that they are easy to experiment with and tinker with in a lab setting. Through research and experimentation, over 100 cannabinoids have been discovered!

Some of these discoveries have been things such as the abominations of the early 2000s, like spice and K2. Still, many other discoveries have resulted in substances that may offer improved benefits over their other forms.
One of these new substances is H4CBD or hexahydrocannabidiol.

Although this cannabinoid was first discovered in 1940, it is just now making its way onto the hemp-derived market. There are not many studies regarding the benefits of this cannabinoid just yet, but this blog will break down everything we know about H4CBD thus far!

What Is H4CBD?

As stated, H4CBD is a brand-new cannabinoid entering the hemp-derived scene. H4CBD, or hexahydrocannabidiol, is the hydrogenated form of CBD. It does not occur naturally in cannabis or hemp plants; instead, it is created via a process similar to producing hydrogenated vegetable oil in a food factory. This process is also used to create another well-known hemp-derived product that has become widely popular, called HHC.

The main difference in structure between HHC and H4CBD is the absence of a double bond on H4CBD. Even though H4CBD and HHC are created using the same process, they are not the same. H4CBD is not considered a THC product and is strictly considered a CBD product.

What Effects Does H4CBD Offer?

Like with many alternative cannabinoids entering the scene, not many studies offer a definitive answer on the effects and benefits of H4CBD. There were two studies done on H4CBD, one in 2006 and one in 2017.

Both of these studies showed that H4CBD, like CBD, has some degree of anti-inflammatory potential and that it appears to interact strongly with CB1 receptors, which traditional CBD does not.

One can assume that H4CBD will have many of the same effects and benefits as CBD but with a considerably higher degree of psychoactivity. Anecdotal reports seem to vary from person to person, like many other cannabinoids.

Users report that H4CBD is highly euphoric and mildly stimulating in smaller doses, while it becomes extremely relaxing in larger doses.

H4CBD has been coined the “CBD you can feel” because of its unique effects. If the effects had to be compared to anything, it would be considered more like a caffeine or nicotine buzz than a high from Delta 8 or Delta 9 THC.

How Is H4CBD Different From CBD?

The first significant difference between H4CBD and CBD is that it is technically synthetic. Hydrogenation is considered one of the simplest and safest forms of synthesis. Still, because its chemical structure has been altered to add additional hydrogen atoms, it can no longer be considered “natural.”

The next difference we have gone into slightly above which are the effects. Although both of these cannabinoids offer many of the same effects and benefits, they also provide drastically different effects as well.

Traditional CBD has no binding affinity to the CB1 receptors and has zero potential for psychoactivity. H4CBD, on the other hand, has a significantly better affinity for binding to CB1 receptors and is considered mildly psychoactive.

Overall, the perks of CBD for some users are that it is entirely non-intoxicating but still provides many of the benefits associated with cannabis. H4CBD seems to lean toward the non-intoxicating side but by a very narrow margin.

Is H4CBD Better Than CBD?

If H4CBD were, say, 100X stronger than CBD or offered all of the same benefits of CBD in a more efficient way, this would be a simple question. Because of H4CBD’s unique effects, it is tough to make side-by-side comparisons. Both of these cannabinoids act in similar ways but also in very different ways.

That said, if users are looking for a more potent CBD, this may not be the cannabinoid for them. If users are looking for a unique experience while benefiting from some of the same effects CBD offers, this is a solid bet!

What Users Could Benefit Most From Trying These Products?

Suppose it remains true that H4CBD gently stimulates your CB1 receptors while mimicking many of the same effects of traditional CBD. In that case, this cannabinoid may become popular among users who suffer from conditions where a combination of THC and CBD is desired.

This may also be an excellent choice for users suffering from anxiety. A THC and CBD combo seem to work wonders for anxiety relief.

H4CBD has a higher binding affinity at CB1 receptors, which may produce effects similar to THC along with effects similar to CBD, making this the ultimate 2-for-1 cannabinoid.

Will It Cause Me To Fail A Drug Test?

This is the number one question many users will wish to know. No definitive article or research study can be provided to give a clear yes or no answer.

We encourage users to think of it in this sense. It has been documented that full-spectrum CBD products, even though they contain less than .3%, THC could still potentially cause someone to fail a drug test.

The only difference in structure between H4CBD and CBD is the addition of hydrogen atoms. That being said, we would treat it the same way we do CBD in terms of failing a drug test.

Final Thoughts: Should I Try H4CBD?

Overall, H4CBD looks to mimic most of, if not all, of the effects associated with traditional CBD. This new cannabinoid creates a bridge between non-intoxication and intoxication, leaving users somewhere in between.

If users are looking to stick to the conventional route to aid in relieving their conditions, they should stick to CBD. If users want to add something different to their routine, H4CBD and its unique effects could be the right choice.
